Six weeks after his daughter is born, a Georgia lineman pulls into his best friend’s carport at two in the morning with a packed bag in the truck, and his friend hands him a guitar.
Macon, Georgia, 2 a.m. on Christmas morning, 2007. An ice storm has the whole county dark. Tom Temple, a lineman six weeks into fatherhood, has been out working the storm, and now he’s in his best friend’s carport with a packed bag in his truck. Fred Wilmack doesn’t ask about the bag. He takes his guitar off the wall, and his mother sits down on the step to listen. By sunrise, they’ve written a song.
